Education Institutions in Hungary

Hungarian higher education is very renowned and consists of 65 institutions, ranging from minor universities of applied sciences to top research universities. 28 among them are state-funded, and they generally offer more than 500 courses in English, German, French and other languages. 

  • College education in Hungary generally lasts for 4 years, and university education lasts for 4 to 6 years. 
  • The vocational curriculum usually lasts 2 years. They are open to secondary vocational school graduates and vocational school students.
  • University Ph.D. courses usually take 3 years to complete. 
  • The Hungarian academic year runs from September to June with long holidays in July and August. 
  • Degrees earned from universities in Hungary follow the international standards set by the Bologna Process. 

Degrees awarded in medicine, veterinary studies, and architecture from Hungarian Universities are transferable and accepted for professional purposes in other EU countries. It makes the Hungarian education system and universities highly valued in the entire EU region.

Work Rights and Stay back Policies

  • International students can get a post-study work visa for 9 months after completing their study period.
  •  Foreign nationals from non-EU/EEA member countries should get a valid work permit or visa to work in Hungary. 
  • Persons under 25 years do not pay the 15% personal income tax, independent of the employment structure. 
  • Students can work up to 24 hours per week.

Cost of Study in Hungary

Test Requirements

  • Students must be fluent in English with good communication skills.
  • IELTS is not required. But students have to appear for a Skype interview taken by the University Officer from Hungary. The interview is to judge the English proficiency of the candidate which lasts between 10- 15 minutes.
